The transport part of the project deals with two issues: (1) Equipment for the garbage truck to ease the loading / unloading procedures for the workers, and (2) route adaptations to make the collection process more cost effective as well as to include the new treatment plant in the circuit.

The analysis of the collection system was performed in many ways. Routes has been plotted on maps and timed. We also spent some interesting days as garbage men in Almolonga, both working with the boys on the back and chatting with the driver as we went along.

The problem
All the garbage is loaded and unloaded manually. These processes are unreasonably time consuming and involve heavy labour for the operators.

The collection system is as well very time consuming for the people in the village, as they are required to wait for the truck to pass twice a week.

Solutions
We have developed several sketch models on possible changes to the truck. Important factors are to lower the maximum height required to load the containers, and to make a platform where containers can be left while waiting to be loaded.

We are currently detailing the solution shown to the left. Production will most likely start ultimo november. Click the pictures for higher resolution.
